Throughout life you will encounter a number of people, some will be positive influences and others negative influences. It is important that you learn how to differentiate between the two types of people, so you can ensure you do not get mixed in with the wrong people after you have worked so hard to achieve your sobriety. While on the Freedom Treatment Center program you will partake in the Ups and Downs in Life Course, which will help you with choosing the right people to surround yourself with. There are always going to be people that come into your life just to try and get something out of you or attempt to bring you down with them. This is why it is so important for you to be capable of recognizing these kinds of people.
In addition to identifying these kinds of people, it is also imperative you know how to get them out of your life as well. You do not need negative influences in your life, especially when you are moving forward with your recovery. When some of these bottom feeding individuals see that you are doing well and succeeding in life, they will creep into your life and try to take away all the success you have built for yourself. The way it works is these individuals see you doing better than them and want to ensure you always stay below them; it makes them feel better about themselves and in power. You do not need these people in your life and will learn how to keep them out of your life successfully through understanding and applying the information learned in this course on the Freedom Treatment Center program.
Through your progression in this course, you will probably start looking back at the group of people you were surrounded by while using drugs and realize many of them could be considered these negative, bottom feeding individuals. You may come to the realization that these other addicts or so called “friends” were just there to use you for the drugs you had, the place you were living, your car or whatever else you may have had at the time that they did not. This is pretty typical behavior for these negative influences. They attempt to take you for all you have and you just call it being friends, but as you progress through this life skills course you slowly begin to realize that you must disassociate with these people because of their effects on you and their capabilities to bring you down right along with them. Recognizing who is beneficial to your life and who is detrimental is one of many important turning points you will make while at Freedom Treatment Center.
